Paul Constantine

Managing Director

Paul Constantine is one of the driving forces behind Sunshine Care. Having opened their own care home 'The Retreat', with his wife Susie in Plymouth in 1998, he has helped to expand Sunshine Care services out into the community, serving both old and young in their own homes.

Paul has a background in community projects, is qualified in care management, project and programme management, and has a first class honours degree in Mathematics and Physics. He has a strong interest in philosophy; and in ideas and systems that have brought cultural changes to society throughout the centuries.

He has developed the mission, vision, values and ethics of the organisation and attempted to be a role model for a culture of Excellence. Paul with his team have been involved in ensuring the organisation's management system is developed, implemented and continuously improved.

Paul, together with Susie and the management team, have consulted with customers, partners and representatives of society to ensure all services are person centred.

Paul fervently believes that to implement his vision for Sunshine Care services, which has for its foundation the two principles of enabling people to take control of their lives and helping them make a positive contribution to the lives of others, he has to develop a stakeholder-focused strategy that takes account of the poor funding and unsettled market and sector in which we operate. Policies, plans, objectives, and processes are developed and deployed to deliver this ambitious strategy.

Paul writes: I am most grateful for my team who work with me to care for those with difficult physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions and complex needs in our community. Susie Constantine

Director of Care

Our Director of Care, Susie Constantine has 30 years experience in care and nursing. She is a fully trained and accredited state registered nurse.

Inspired by her many years of care in the community and intuiting the needs of the elderly and disabled alike, she has worked strenuously with her team to establish our Residential Home, The Retreat in 1998; and then expand our services into the community in 2002. Noticing how vital empathic person centered care was for each of the residents, their families and friends, Susie branched out into the specialism of stay at home live in care, starting in 2003; registering Sunshine Care as a shining example of care services for the South West and beyond. Susie continues to be motivated by wanting to provide quality, tailored care that encourages independence and enables individuality.

Widening our scope, the training school was developed at Derriford, and so job opportunities were created for many people, both locally and afar, developing the potential of their natural caring instinct; thus enabling independent living for so many who previously had no choice except residential care; giving up their treasured homes.

The conditions we are able to support under the leadership of Susie is continually widening. We are becoming more and more aware of the many conditions people are living with and the specialised care they require as they are enabled to live as independently as possible in the comfort of their own home.

Aaron Rixon

Nursing Care Services Manager

I am responsible for our 24 Hour Live-in Care Services, our Nursing Agency Temporary and Permanent Recruitment, Activities and Outings Services in the local community and Sheltered Housing Services. I have previously managed our Domiciliary Care service for the last 3 years which has enabled me to grow and learn in this very demanding job role.

My role is very demanding and challenging and no day is the same as another. I need to prioritise my work load accordingly; ensuring that the service is run as smoothly as possible and that client, carers and the administration team have adequate support.

I love my job and I am very passionate about the service we deliver at Sunshine to our customers. I have a wealth of knowledge regarding Health and Social Care and it is something that I have been interested in since leaving school. I have 3 years experience with Sunshine Care and have gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my previous employer, Plymouth City Council.


Jade Campbell

Development Manager

I have worked for Sunshine Care for the last 7 years, but have been in the care sector for 10 years, including working for the local authority. I started at Sunshine Care as carer, and initially moved into the Office as a field coordinator; doing client reviews and assessments, risk assessments and supervising staff. I have worked in a variety of roles, including Deputy Manager. I have an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration, Level 4 Leadership and Management in Care Services, A1 Assessor's Award and am currently working towards a Health and Social Care degree.

I now work as a Development Manager, and am involved with quality management, developing and reviewing our services and helping to implement new projects. I love my current role because it is diverse, interesting and also challenging at times. I am passionate about involving service users, their families and care staff in the way we deliver our care services. Because of the fact I have knowledge and experience within most parts of the organisation, I also enjoy supporting the team to learn, improve and develop.

If somebody has a problem, I like to solve it! Although Sara and Aaron manage the day-to-day operations, I am involved with looking at how we can use information and experiences to improve the service for everybody, not just individuals.

I develop new processes and maintain our quality management systems alongside other members of the management team, through the continual monitoring, review and development of the services we provide.
