Clients' Frequently Asked Questions

What type of service does Sunshine Care provide?

We provide two categories of care, Domiciliary Care and Live-In Care. Domiciliary Care is for clients who need help occasionally throughout the day but not continuously. Care Assistants will visit you for example for an hour, twice a day. Live-In Care is for clients who need continuous care for varying lengths of time. Care Assistants will live with you in your own home or travel with you on holiday.

How much does it cost?

This will vary according to your requirements. Please contact our head office on 01752 242454 and we will be pleased to give you an estimate over the telephone.

How thoroughly are your Sunshine Carer’s trained?

The care staff we supply to you will have had training that meets the standard required by the Care Standards Act 2002. Most of our care staff will have qualifications that exceed these standards. We also supply the necessary updates and extra courses that equip our carers to undertake the type of care that they wish to specialise in.

Where do we recruit from?

We endeavour to recruit from the UK.

When we recruit from abroad we ensure that they have good English-speaking skills and a good knowledge of our culture.

We have no upper age limit though older carers need to be fit enough to help frail and disabled people with their mobility and weight transference. We have only a few carers under 21 or over 65.

Their experience and attitude is more important than their age.

Are the Sunshine Carers police-checked?

By law, healthcare workers in the UK must obtain a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and Protection of Vulnerable Persons check before they are allowed to work unsupervised in the healthcare sector. All of our carers will have had these checks before being introduced to a client.

How long does the care last for?

The provision of a fortnightly rota system of preferred carers means we can look after you throughout the year, for as long as you wish. We will adjust the length of time, in week blocks, to mutually suit you and your preferred carers.

Each assignment is arranged for periods of up to four weeks which can be renewed as necessary.

Many clients will only want us for respite care, whilst their own regular carer or relation takes a holiday. Some require our services after a bout of sickness or for a few weeks of convalescent care after an operation.

What do the Sunshine Carers do?

Our carers are there to help you with your needs whatever they may be. You may like someone to live with you to keep you company and to do general housework. Others may need more advanced care such as help with bathing and getting dressed.

After an initial assessment we will endeavour to match a suitable carer that can help with all your needs.

What do I do if things go wrong?

Our offices are open on a Saturday as well as normal Monday to Friday office hours.

In addition, we have an on-call service outside of these hours, including weekends, for advice.

One of the owners is a trained nurse so you will always have her expertise and experience on hand to help with any medical enquiries.
